Päivyt Meller
Päivyt Meller was third concertmaster with the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra from 1988 to 1990 and is now a lecturer in violin music at the Sibelius Academy. It was there that she studied under Yoshiko Arai and Anja Ignatius. She received her diploma in the violin aged 15. Her studies continued in the USA, in the Netherlands and at the International Menuhin Music Academy in Switzerland. Meller was awarded prizes twice as finalist in the Kuopio Violin Competition – in 1977 and 1990. She has performed as soloist with the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra and several other Finnish orchestras. Meller and her students founded the Camerata Caprice Chamber Orchestra. She has also been Artistic Director of the international masterclasses given in Raudaskylä, a village in central Finland. She has appeared in many places in Finland and abroad, both as soloist and chamber musician, and taught and performed at several festivals. She has also run masterclasses in the violin in foreign schools. Meller plays a Nicola Gagliano violin from 1777.
