Christoffer Sundqvist

Christoffer Sundqvist (b. 1978) studied clarinet at the St Petersburg State Conservatory under Bernhard Nylund and gained his diploma at the Sibelius Academy under Anna-Maija Korsimaa. He continued his studies at the Music Academy of Basle under Professor Francois Benda. In 2002 he shared first prize in the Crusell Clarinet Competition. He has performed as soloist with nearly all the Finnish orchestras as well as the BBC Symphony Orchestra, Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra, Estonian National Symphony Orchestra, Norrköping Symphony Orchestra and Basle Symphony Orchestra. From 2013 to 2016 Sundqvist was Artistic Director of the Pietarsaari Sinfonietta. Together with Sebastian Fagerlund he founded the Pietarsaari RUSK chamber music festival in 2013. He has given first performances of clarinet concertos by Fagerlund, Olli Kortekangas, Erkki-Sven Tüür and Jukka Linkola. Since 2005 he has been principle clarinet with the Finnish Symphony Radio Orchestra. He teaches clarinet at the Sibelius Academy and regularly gives masterclasses.
