Valeria Resjan
Valeria Resjan began piano lessons in Russia, moving to Finland in 1990. She was a pupil of Hamsa Al-Wadi Juris at the Sibelius Academy and of Dmitri Bashkirov in Madrid, and she studied chamber music under Ralf Gothóni. Resjan shared first prize in the Maj Lind Piano Competition in 1992 and won the international Pilar Bayona Piano Competition in Spain in 1995. She came fourth in the Montreal International Competition in 1996, in which she also took the award for the audience’s favourite artist. Resjan has performed as solo pianist and soloist with orchestra in Europe, Asia and North America, and has collaborated in chamber music with many internationally acclaimed musicians. She has recorded works by Tchaikovsky and Sibelius with violinist Pietari Inkinen and cellist Tuomas Ylinen. The trio performed at the Wigmore Hall in 2007.
