Kuhmo Chamber Music has received the EFFE Label 2017 awarded for the best events by the European Festivals Association (EFA). Kuhmo first received the award for the 2015 season. National experts and the International Jury appointed by the EFA required those festivals winning the award to demonstrate high artistic standards, a sense of community and, at the same time, an international focus.
The Jury said that the essence of Kuhmo Chamber Music lay in both its international and European engagement. The small town brings together the world’s leading chamber musicians and ensembles to play in beautiful, natural surroundings. This all makes for a unique and fascinating atmosphere ‘in the middle of nowhere’ and an aesthetic experience for performers and audience alike. The Jury went on to say that Kuhmo had been an inspiration for many other festivals, in Finland and abroad. ‘Artistic commitment, community involvement and international engagement all meet in this first rate, world-leading, yet intimate and warm-hearted chamber music event.’
Kuhmo Chamber Music, founded in 1970, is Finland’s biggest chamber music festival. Its Artistic Director is Vladimir Mendelssohn. This year the Festival starts on 9 July and lasts two weeks.
