Dominic Law

Double bassist Dominic Law is enjoying a multi-faceted career as a performer and teacher. He has performed with the BBC Symphony Orchestra as Guest Principal Bass, and appeared with the Philadelphia Orchestra, New York Philharmonic, Philharmonia Orchestra, and Baltimore Symphony Orchestra. Mr. Law is a founding member of the Musicus Soloists, and a founding core-member of Away From Keyboard, a contemporary chamber collective that incorporates play structures and game mechanics into their performances. He is now an active freelancer in New York City, where he offers private lessons in double bass and music theory for all levels, both inperson in New York City or virtually.

Mr. Law is a C.V. Starr Doctoral Fellow at The Juilliard School, where he also completed his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees. He is currently a teaching fellow for the music theory and history departments, and had served as a fellow for the Juilliard Music Advancement Program. His
principal teachers include Joseph Conyers, Timothy Cobb, Harold Robinson, and Rex Surany on the double bass; Doug Balliett on baroque bass; and Sarah Cunningham on viola da gamba. Mr. Law has received grants and awards from the Bei Shan Tang Foundation, Irene Diamond Graduate

Fund, Hong Kong Jockey Club Music and Dance Fund, and the Bernard van Zuiden Music Fund. In his spare time, Mr. Law enjoys watching soccer (football) and exploring Cantonese restaurants in New York City.
