Emma Mali

Emma Mali (1996) began her violin studies at the age of five. From the West Helsinki Music Institute she got into the Youth Department of Sibelius-Academy. Her Bachelor's studies in Sibelius-Academy Emma did with Pekka Kauppinen and Réka Szilvay, and Erasmus-exchange with Mi-kyung Lee in Munich. Minna Pensola, Antti Tikkanen and Tuomas Haapanen have also been her important teachers and mentors. Currently Emma is studying her Master's in Hochschule für Musik und Theater München with professor Mi-kyung Lee. Emma played in Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra's Young Soloists' concert in 2015. In 2016 she won the 3rd prize in Juhani Heinonen Violin Competition. She was one of the Pro Musica Foundation Young Musicians of the Year in 2018. As an inquisitive musician, Emma craves for versatility. She studied baroque violin in Sibelius-Academy with Minna Kangas, and did her Bachelor's exam in baroque violin in March 2021. Chamber music has always been a big part of Emma's career and her main source of inspiration. The most important chamber music teachers for Emma have been Paavo Pohjola, Antti Tikkanen and all the colleagues she has played chamber music with. Emma has played in such orchestras as Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra, Helsinki Philharmonic orchestra and Finnish National Opera Orchestra. She has taken part of the concertmaster training of Sibelius-Academy and the concertmaster training in Finnish Chamber Orchestra's Youth Academy. She has worked as a leader in various projects in Finland, Italy and Bulgaria. Emma's instrument is Carlo Antonio Testore (1730), kindly on loan from the OP Art Foundation.
