Laura Hynninen
In her solo projects, Laura Hynninen brings together sound and visual art. The harp is her principal instrument, but she also uses, among other things, her own voice and live electronics. Finland’s public broadcaster Yle selected Otilia (Alba Records), a solo album composed, performed, and produced by Hynninen, as the Record of the Year 2021. Laura Hynninen also serves as the Artistic Director of the Sysmä Summer Sounds Festival (Sysmän Suvisoitto).
Hynninen completed her highest-level harp performance diploma (A Diploma) at the Sibelius Academy in 1999. She was Principal Harp of the Finnish National Opera Orchestra from 2000 to 2012 and Principal Harp of the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra from 2013 to 2015.
Hynninen is known for her versatile work in ensembles of many different styles. She has performed as a soloist and chamber musician throughout Europe, as well as in the United States and Japan. She has appeared as a soloist with several Finnish orchestras, including Avanti! Chamber Orchestra, the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra, Oulu Symphony Orchestra, and Tapiola Sinfonietta.
In addition, she has made recordings, radio productions, arrangements, and studio recordings in a wide range of musical genres, including sacred music, pop, rock, heavy metal, jazz, and contemporary music.
