Markus Suihkonen

The multiple award winning young Finnish bass, Markus Suihkonen, studied at the Sibelius Academy and made his stage debut in 2014 as Colline/La bohème. Shortly after, he made his debut at the Finnish National Opera in Shostakovich’s The Nose and performed the roles of Figaro in the Sibelius Academy’s production of The marriage of Figaro and Il Commendatore/Don Giovanni at the Alexander Theater in Helsinki. In addition, he quickly became a sought-after concert singer and performed with numerous Finnish philharmonic and chamber orchestras, leading him to institutions such as the Savonlinna Opera Festival where he performed recitals and took part in Sallinen’s opera Kullervo. In 2017/18 Markus Suihkonen was a member of the Young Ensemble at Vlaamse Opera (Amsterdam) where he sang roles such as Daniel/Le duc d'Albe, Pistola/Falstaff (Director: Christoph Waltz), Doorman/Das Wunder der Heliane, Second Grailknight and Titurel/Parsifal, the bass part in Mozart’s Requiem, as well as Publio/La clemenza di Tito, which he also performed at the Royal Opéra de Wallonie in Liège. In the seasons 2018/19 and 2019/20 he was a member of the prestigious Opera Studio at Bayerische Staatsoper Munich where he sang in many productions on the big stage and, among others, the role of King René/Iolanta in the Opera Studio production. From the season 2020/21, Markus Suihkonen is a member of the ensemble at State Opera Hannover. Planned roles in his first season include Ludovico/Otello, Sarastro/The Magic Flute and Eremit/Der Freichütz. Artist's/Ensemble's own website
