Matthias Funke

Matthias Funke is a viola player from Germany who started learning the violin in Dresden when he was four. Later he studied at the University of Music and Theatre Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy, and then viola at the Sibelius Academy. Funke has performed as both a soloist and chamber musician around Europe, Russia and Japan alongside such musicians as Diemund Poppen, Christian Funke, Teemu Kupiainen, Mark Gothoni and Erkki Rautio. He did well in the Jugend musiziert competition and chamber music competition in Leipzig. He is also an orchestral player and has appeared with the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra, Finnish National Opera Orchestra, Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra, Sinfonia Lahti and Turku Philharmonic Orchestra. Funke is also the viola player with the Bålder Quartet. His instrument is a Hans Joachim Schade. The Bålder Quartet is a member of the Kuhmo Chamber Music's Quartet Academy.
