Mavis Lam

Mavis Lam started learning the pipa from the age of ten, and was the winner of the advanced pipa class of the Hong Kong Schools Music Festival. In 1999, Lam graduated from the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts (Chinese Music). In 2001 she won the China Pipa Competition (professionals). Lam has appeared at the Melbourne Festival and Kwangiu Music Festival, and in 2012 she took part in performances by the On the Road Again music theatre in Hong Kong, Thailand and Taiwan. Lam is often invited to participate in cross-disciplinary projects, in which she has at various times collaborated with the Zuni Icosahedron theatre, the Hong Kong Ballet, The Song Company (Australia), the Fulcrum Point New Music Project (USA), and the TIMF Ensemble (Korea). Mavis Lam currently plays with the Wuji Ensemble, which consists of highly skilled performers of Chinese stringed instruments. Mavis Lam’s appearance at the Kuhmo Festival is supported by Musicus Society. Musicus Society is financially supported by the Springboard Grant under the Arts Capacity Development Funding Scheme of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region
