Wolfgang Abendroth

Wolfgang Abendroth was born in Osnabruck, Germany, in 1978, and grew up in a musical family. He attended the Hochschule für Musik (University of Music) in Cologne, studying piano and organ, improvisation, orchestral conducting and song. Abendroth has won prizes in several international competitions and has performed widely around Europe and in South America. In 2002 he was appointed cantor and organist at the Johanneskirche, Düsseldorf’s principal Protestant church. He also directs the choir there as well as the Düsseldorf Chamber Choir. He teaches at the Hochschule für Kirchenmusik in Herford and at Cologne’s Hochschule für Musik. The City of Düsseldorf has officially recognised him for his contribution to musical life in the city.
