Born Lau

Violist Born Lau, who is from Hong Kong, has performed as soloist and chamber music extensively across Europe, Asia and the USA. Career highlights include an appearance in Berlin at the Henry A. Kissinger award ceremony and a concert with the Tokyo String Quartet in Los Angeles. He was principal Viola with the Curtis Symphony Orchestra and the San Diego Symphony. Lau has been successful in several viola competitions, including the Primrose International Viola Competition in 2014. He began learning the violin when he was seven, switching to the viola aged nine. His teachers have included Roberto Diaz, Paul Coletti and Richard Fleischman, and he studied chamber music with the players of the Emerson, Guarneri and Tokyo String Quartets. Lau holds a Bachelor of Music degree from the Colburn Conservatory of Music and a diploma from the Curtis Institute of Music. He has also given masterclasses himself in different parts of the USA. Born Lau's performances at the Kuhmo Chamber Music is in cooperation with Musicus Society. Musicus Society is financially supported by the Spirngboard Grant under the Arts Capacity Development Funding Scheme of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.
