Eriikka Maalismaa
Violinist Eriikka Maalismaa is one of the most active freelance musicians in Finland. She organizes chamber music concerts for Classic Hietsu concert series, curates Wonderfeel Helsinki event and plays in numerous ensembles. She has been the concert master and section principal in many orchestras, such as the Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra, Tapiola Sinfonietta, Australian Chamber Orchestra and BBC Symphony Orchestra. She loves to have a combination of roles as a chamber musician, organizer, and a multitasker. Maalismaa is currently very excited to work with living composers and has commissioned handful of new pieces from Finnish composers. Veli Kujala and Jouni Hirvelä have both composed a violin concerto for Maalismaa. In 2019 she published an acclaimed recording, which included all Schumann’s violin sonatas on period instruments with pianist Emil Holmström. They won an Emma award for the Schumann recording. Their next recording was published in the spring of 2021 and featured music from Amy Beach and sonatas by Richard Strauss.
