Hyoung Joon Jo

Hyoung Joon Jo started playing the cello in the city of his birth, Busan, in South Korea. When he was 17 he came to Europe to study with Kleif Carnarius in Berlin, Emil Rovner in Dresden, Enrico Dindo in Pavia and Florian Kitt in Graz. He has attended masterclasses run by Peter Bruns, Martin Ostertag, Thomas Demenga, Frans Helmerson and Sung-Won Yang. Jo has seen success in several international competitions, including that in Kuldiga in Latvia, Thessaloniki in Greece and Montalto Ligure in Italy. He has also deputised and been a trainee with the Konzerthausorchester Berlin and the Munich Symphony Orchestra. Jo has played as soloist with the Südwestdeutsche Philharmonie of Konstanz, Germany, and chamber music in Germany, Italy, France, the UK and Spain. He is cellist with the Abel Quartet, which has achieved success in many international chamber music competitions. Abel Quartet is a member of the Kuhmo Chamber Music's Quartet Academy.
