Jaakko Gummerus

Jaakko Gummerus began playing trumpet in the town of his birth, Kalajoki, Finland, encouraged by his music teacher at school. Soon afterwards he went to study at the Music Institute at Ylivieska, where he was taught by Markus Seppälä. In 2009, he started his studies at the Sibelius Academy, under Touko Lundell, Pasi Pirinen and Aki Välimäki, graduating with a master’s degree in 20216. From 2013 to 2014 he was on an exchange arrangement at Malmö College of Music, where his teachers were Bo Nilsson and Håkan Hardenberger. Gummerus has acquired experience playing with almost all the Finnish orchestras, and in 2013 he started as second principal trumpet with the Kuopio Symphony Orchestra. He is a keen player of chamber music and has appeared at the Kuhmo Chamber Music Festival since 2012. In his spare time he may be found at the ice hockey rink, at the fitness centre or jogging in the countryside.
