Jaakko Kortekangas

Jaakko Kortekangas has pursued a career as a stage artist for 35 years or more. He has performed in many countries in Europe, and in New York, Tokyo and other cities. He was with the Freiburg Opera in Germany for 10 years. He has given the first performances of works of many Finnish composers and sings Lied as well as opera. Central to his repertoire are the Schubert song cycles Winterreise and Die schöne Müllerin. His numerous recordings include a disc of songs by Erkki Melartin with pianist Ilkka Paananen, and Robert Schumann’s Scenes from Goethe’s Faust with the Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra. During the season 2017–18 Kortekangas sang in Verdi’s La Traviata and Puccini’s Madama Butterfly at the Finnish National Opera. In March this year (2018) he sang the role of Topi in Aulis Sallinen’s opera The Red Line, in Kemi, northern Finland.
