Jarmo Julkunen
Jarmo Julkunen has worked as a freelance musician since 1999. He has played over 1,500 gigs in concert halls, at festivals, in theatre productions, and in clubs. Julkunen has performed on numerous recordings and has recorded nearly one hundred archival tapes for Yleisradio. His playing can also be heard in many television and radio commercials, as well as in the background of countless film and television productions.
Julkunen’s instrument repertoire includes the lute, ukulele, banjo, mandolin, and guitar. He performs regularly as a soloist, chamber musician, and member of various ensembles and theatre productions.
He has appeared with some of Finland’s most renowned orchestras and ensembles, including the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra, Tapiola Sinfonietta, and the contemporary music ensemble Avanti!. His work with the lute and baroque guitar has also led to performances with the Helsinki Baroque Orchestra and the Finnish Baroque Orchestra. In addition, he has played in various Finnish folk and jazz groups.
Julkunen is a frequent guest at music festivals across Finland and has performed in countries such as England, France, Spain, and Italy. He has also composed music to texts by Finnish poets (Tekijä Tuntematon) and written music for the stage. In addition, Julkunen works as a lecturer in free accompaniment at the Sibelius Academy.
