Jukka Harju

Jukka Harju discovered the French horn when he was nine years old, and two years later he performed in the European Broadcasting Union's Young Soloists' Competition in Dublin, Ireland. His rapid start in the world of music led him to the Sibelius Academy and tuition with Kalervo Kulmala and then with Roland Berger, principal horn player with the Vienna Philharmonic. After taking first prize in the Lieksa International French Horn Competition, Harju was named brass player 2006 in Finland. Since 2008 he has been principal French horn with the Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra. He has also been a guest player with the Gustav Mahler Jugendorchester, Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra, Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra, Oslo Philharmonic, Bamberg Symphony and the Chamber Orchestra of Europe. Harju regularly appears as soloist with Finnish orchestras. He has travelled Europe, Japan and the United States playing chamber music, giving recitals and leading masterclasses. Harju teaches at the Sibelius Academy and enjoys composing and photography. He is also a qualified movie director. Artist's/Ensemble's own website
