Jukka-Pekka Peltoniemi

Jukka-Pekka Peltoniemi started playing the trumpet in Rovaniemi, northern Finland, and continued his studies at the Oulu Conservatory. He gained a master’s degree at the Sibelius Academy in 2004, having studied under Pasi Pirinen and Ari Heinonen. From 2001 to 2002 Peltoniemi studied at the Royal College of Music, Stockholm, as a pupil of Mark Schrello. He later studied on masterclasses with Robert Sullivan, Henry Adelbrecht and Bo Nilsson. Peltoniemi has played with the Lahti Symphony Orchestra and the orchestra of the Finnish National Opera, and since 2008 he has been assistant principal trumpet with the Oulu Symphony Orchestra. He has also been a lecturer in the trumpet at the Central Ostrobothnia Conservatory and continues to teach at the Oulu Conservatory. Peltoniemi has performed as soloist with the Ostrobothnian Chamber Orchestra and the Oulu Symphony Orchestra. In his free time he also plays trumpet with the Oulu All Star Big Band and in other popular music line-ups. In 2000 he was awarded the Pro Musica prize.
