Katariina Heikkilä

Katariina Heikkilä is a mezzo-soprano from close by to Tampere. She graduated from the Sibelius Academy in 2015, where her teacher had been Eeva-Liisa Saarinen, majoring in Lied and oratorio. Her other teachers have included Marjut Hannula, Mika Kares, Aulikki Eerola, Anna-Clara Groundstroem, Ritva Auvinen and Mari Vuorijärvi. Heikkilä has appeared as soloist with the Hämeenlinna city Orchestra, the Helsinki Philharmonic, the Finnish Baroque Orchestra and Ensemble Nylandia, and she made her debut at the Finnish National Opera in 2012 singing the part of Cornelia in Handel’s Julius Caesar. She made her international opera debut in 2014 at the Estonian National Opera, once again in the role of Cornelia. Heikkilä took second prize in the Kangasniemi Singing Competition in 2010 and in the summer of 2011 and of 2013 she reached the finals in the Timo Mustakallio Competition. In August 2014 Heikkilä was one of the semi-finalists in the Mirjam Helin International Singing Competition, and in summer 2016 she made it to the semi-finals in the international Zinka Milanov singing contest in Croatia.
