Kerttu Aalto-Setälä

Kerttu Aalto-Setälä was born in 1992 and started playing the flute aged seven at the Juvenalia Music Institute in Espoo under Hellevi Lassfolk. She continued her studies from 2009 to 2013 at the Sibelius Academy as a pupil of Petri Alanko, first in the Youth Department and later on a degree programme in music. In autumn 2013 she also started studying at the City of Basel Music Academy under Professor Felix Renggli, and in spring 2016 she graduated from both colleges. In autumn 2016 she started studying for a master’s with Professor Andrea Lieberknecht at the University for Music and Performing Arts in Munich. Kerttu Aalto-Setälä has gained orchestral experience both at home and abroad and experience of competitions (she entered for the ARD International Music Competition in Munich). She has also taken part in several masterclasses and played at festivals all over Europe. She has received support from the Wihuri Foundation, the Finnish Cultural Foundation and Pro Musica. Aalto-Setälä is in the Young Chamber Musicians programme.
