Maria Krykov

Maria Krykov was born in Helsinki in 1992 and began music studies aged six at the East Helsinki Music Institute, where she chose to learn the biggest instrument in the class, the double bass. Lasse Lagercrantz was the teacher. Currently Krykov is studying for her master’s at the Academy of Music Hanns Eisler in Berlin under Matthew McDonald. She has received numerous prizes in international music competitions, such as the Markneukirchen in 2015, Leoš Janáček competition in 2018, the Sperger Competition in 2016 and the Ankara Double Bass Competition in 2016. She reached the semi-finals in the ARD International Music Competition in 2016. Krykov has also played as soloist with the Munich Chamber Orchestra, the Baden-Baden Philharmonic Orchestra and Orchestra Concerto Celestino. She has also guested with the Berlin Philharmonic, Amsterdam’s Concertgebouw Orchestra, the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin and the Mahler Chamber Orchestra. In autumn 2018 Maria Krykov was awarded the Ritter Prize in Hamburg.
