Martta Jämsä

Martta Jämsä (b. 1993) is studying for a master’s degree in the flute at the Sibelius Academy with Mikael Helasvuo. She gained a distinction with her first degree in 2016, when her teacher had been Petri Alanko. She is spending the spring of 2018 as an exchange student at the Conservatoire Royal de Liège in Belgium as a pupil of Toon Fret. Jämsä has also attended masterclasses with Emmanuel Pahud, Felix Renggli, Emily Beynon, Susan Milan and Jacques Zoon. Jämsä has played with such orchestras as the Orchestra of the Finnish National opera, Tapiola Sinfonietta, Finnish Chamber Orchestra and Helsinki Sinfonietta. She was recently chosen for an apprenticeship with the Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra. Flautist and actor, Jämsä has worked for more than two years in children’s opera put on at the Finnish National Opera. She also plays flute with the Kaaos Ensemble founded in 2016, a quartet that actively endeavours to commission and perform music by young composers.
