Noora Kärnä

Noora Kärnä began her music studies learning the piano at the Länsi-Pohja Music Institute in Tornio, northern Finland. Seven years later she decided to switch to the bassoon, which seemed a better choice. Here vocational studies took her to the Oulu Conservatory and then to the Sibelius Academy plus an exchange arrangement at the Mannheim University of Music in Germany. Currently Kärnä plays bassoon and contrabassoon with the Helsinki Philharmonic. She landed this dream job in autumn 2013, before which she had a warm relationship with both the Tampere Philharmonic Orchestra and the orchestra of the Finnish National Opera. Kärnä likes the small of lilies, swimming in the ice, paper calendars, and planning holidays. Kärnä is in the Young Chamber Musicians programme.
