Olli Hyyrynen

Olli Hyyrynen (born 1984) has played Baroque guitar and lute with the Ensemble Nylandia, Espoo Baroque Ensemble, Orpheus’ Muses and the Kymi Sinfonietta. He also performs a good deal of chamber music and solo repertoire, for which there is an abundance of works written for his instrument from the 16th century right through to the present day. Hyyrynen began his musical studies at the Helsinki Metropolia University of Applied Sciences under Petri Kumela. He graduated with a master’s degree in music from the Sibelius Academy in 2013, having studied with Jukka Savijoki and Eero Palviainen. Important landmarks in his musical education were the Erasmus exchange year programme at the Catalonia College of Music in Barcelona with guitarist Àlex Garrobé, and the lessons given, and example set, by ancient music specialists Mónica Pustilnik, Xavier Díaz-Latorre and Andrew Lawrence-King. Hyyrynen has also studied on masterclasses given by Zoran Dukić, Pablo Márquez and Hopkinson Smith. He teaches at a number of music academies in southern Finland and since 2015 has been Chair of the Cultural Association Ensemble Nylandia.
