Riina Piirilä

Riina Piirilä, born in 1995, is studying with Professor Lars Anders Tomter at the Norwegian Academy of Music. She was previously at the Sibelius Academy studying under Helge Valtonen, Atte Kilpeläinen and Lilli Maijala. She then did her master’s with Tabea Zimmermann, Thomas Riebl, Bruno Giuranna and Hartmut Rohde. Piirilä has appeared at major Finnish chamber music festivals, such as Kuhmo, Kauniainen, the RUSK and the Helsinki Festival. She played with the Borea String Quartet (with Kasmir Uusitupa, Tami Pohjola and Senja Rummukainen) from 2010 to 2018. She was a finalist in the 2017 Tampere National Viola Competition, at which she performed with the Tampere Philharmonic. She has also been assistant with the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra.
