Roope Gröndahl

Roope Gröndahl studied piano at the Sibelius Academy under Liisa Pohjola and Matti Raekallio and at London’s Royal Academy of Music, where his teacher was Christopher Elton. He became an ardent lover of chamber music when young and his ensemble playing mentors included Ralf Gothóni, Emanuel Ax, and – with the focus on French music - Alain Planès. While still at school, in the period 2007-2008, Gröndahl took second prize in the international Maj Lind piano competition and was in the finals of the Eurovision Young Musicians competition in Vienna. In May 2013, he reached the finals and won a special award at the Queen Elizabeth Piano Competition in Brussels. Roope Gröndahl has given concerts at many music festivals and appeared as soloist with virtually all the Finnish orchestras under many leading conductors. Abroad, he has performed all over Europe, and in the USA, China and Australia. Besides his artistic work, Roope Gröndahl also teaches piano at the Turku Conservatory.
