Sampo Haapaniemi

The baritone Sampo Haapaniemi, who is from Helsinki, graduated in December 2015 from the Sibelius Academy, where he had studied opera. His teachers were Hannu Niemelä, Timo Honkonen and Jorma Elorinne. In the academic year 2012–2013 Haapaniemi was an exchange student at the Hanover University of Music in Germany, where he was a pupil of Marina Sandel. Haapaniemi has also attended masterclasses given by Peter Berne and Soile Isokoski, for example. He has sung solo parts in several oratorios, passions and new works with a large number of orchestras and choirs, including the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra, Helsinki Baroque Orchestra, Finnish Baroque Orchestra, Musicians of the King's Road, YL Male Voice Choir, Talla Vocal ensemble and Helsinki Chamber Choir. Haapaniemi made his debut at the Finnish National Opera in February 2016 in the role of Fiorello in the Barber of Seville. He has also appeared in first performances of operas by Kalevi Aho, Ilkka von Boehm and Antti Auvinen.
