Svetlana Makarova

Svetlana Makarova was born in Moscow and began her career as a violinist when as a virtual child prodigy, she won the Moscow International Tchaikovsky Competition for Young Musicians aged just 10. She studied with Maya Glezarova at the Moscow Conservatory and graduated from that institution in 2008. She then moved to Spain to join the Palau de Les Arts Reina Sofia Orchestra under Lorin Maazel. In chamber music she has collaborated with such artists as Franz Helmerson, Pavel Vernikov, Natalia Gutman and Julian Rachlin. She has also played with the Lithuanian Chamber Orchestra, Kremerata Baltica and the Valencian Symphony Orchestra, and been a guest at many international festivals. Makarova teaches her students in the Russian violin school tradition at Moscow’s Gnessin Russian Academy of Music, in Florence, in Barcelona and at the University of Music Lausanne, where she has been Professor of Violin since 2014. She plays with the AMOS Piano Quartet and plays a Nicolò Gagliano violin from 1745.
