Tuija-Maija Nurminen
Tuija-Maija Nurminen began her musical studies at the Sibelius Academy in 1989 and then went on to study performance and composition, with percussion as her main subject. Her teachers were Lassi Erkkilä and Tim Ferchen. She gained her master’s degree in 2003. She has also studied baroque tympani under Nick Woud, percussionist with Amsterdam’s Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra. Nurminen works as a freelance musician with many Finnish orchestras. She is a familiar face with members of the Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra, Avanti!, the Ostrobothnian Chamber Orchestra, the Finnish National Opera orchestra, the Tapiola Sinfonietta, the Finnish Baroque Orchestra, the Helsinki Baroque Orchestra, the Oulu Symphony Orchestra, the Chamber Orchestra of Lapland and numerous other regional orchestras.
