Varpu Heikinheimo

Varpu Heikinheimo plays in different chamber ensembles and has also performed with the Finnish National Opera Orchestra and Sinfonia Lahti. In summer 2019 she will be touring Finland and Sweden with Swedish pianist Daniel Beskow. Heikinheimo is a member of the Kuhmo Quartet Academy and next year she will be taking a course leading to a diploma in chamber music at the University of Vienna. She graduated from both the Hanover University of Music, Drama and Media and the Sibelius Academy. Silja Raitio-Heikinheimo, Jukka Merjanen and Lara Lev were among her most important teachers. Heikinheimo premiered Harri Wessman’s violin concerto. She has also played as soloist with the Jokisali Chamber Orchestra. With the Tremor String Quartet she earned a Kees Wiebenga scholarship for best chamber music performance at the Kuhmo Festival. In 2012 she played in the Musik am Nachmittag concert series in Germany. Varpu Heikinheimo has won awards in two international competitions for young musicians.
