Carsten Schmidt

Piano

Carsten Schmidt regularly gives concerts around the world as a pianist, harpsichordist and conductor. He has performed at the Ravinia Festival in Chicago, the Schubert Festival in Amsterdam, the Mozart Festival in Augsburg, Carnegie Hall in New York, and the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC. His repertoire ranges from the early baroque to new music, and he has premiered more than 100 new works. Schmidt studied at the Folkwang School in Essen, Germany, at Indiana University and at Yale. His main teachers were Leonard Hokanson and Claude Frank (piano), and Richard Rephann (harpsichord). Schmidt is professor of piano and harpsichord at Sarah Lawrence College in New York, and Artistic Director of the Staunton Music Festival in Virginia.
