Jeni Packalén


The mezzo-soprano Jeni Packalén made her debut at the Finnish National Opera in 2009 in Daddy's Girl by Olli Kortekangas. Since then she has had roles in several operas, including Ilkka Kuusisto's Daughters of the Fatherland, Bizet's Carmen, The Nose by Shostakovich and the Rake's Progress by Stravinsky. Packalén also has associations with chamber music, music of the Baroque and Church music. Over the years, such Finnish events as the Kuhmo Chamber Music Festival, Lux Musicae, Ritarihuoneen kamarikesä (House of Nobility Summer Festival), BarokkiKuopio and the Naantali Music Festival have made her name as an eminent artist. Packalén has performed the passion and oratorio repertoire with the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra, Finnish Baroque Orchestra, Kymi Sinfonietta, Lappeenranta City Orchestra, Lohja City Orchestra and the Musicians of the King's Road. She came second in the Lappeenranta National Singing Competition in 2008. In 2009, Jeni Packalén received the Richard Wagner Scholarship for the 2009 Bayreuth Festival.
