Petri Mäkiharju

Double Bass

Petri Mäkiharju has a long track record as a musician, at home whatever the genre or musical style it happens to be. He is mainly employed as alternating leader of the double bass section of the Tampere Philharmonic Orchestra, but he is also in demand as a guest player with several Finnish symphony orchestras. Besides working with orchestras, though, Mäkiharju is an active chamber musician, performing in various ensembles in Finland and abroad. He also makes regular appearances as a soloist. His solo concert tour - Con Trabajo - incorporates solo and duo recitals as well as performances with orchestra. He also performs a one-man show called Onnistumisia (‘Success'), a sort of philosophical mediation on life from a bass player's standpoint. Mäkiharju is also active in the world of popular music, one of his constant interests being Nuevo Quinteto Otra Vez, a kind of avant-garde tango line-up.
