Seppo Kimanen

Seppo Kimanen

Cellist Seppo Kimanen is the celebrated founder of the Kuhmo Chamber Music Festival, and was its Artistic Director for a very long time. He is very much a chamber musician, whose career has been marked by his membership of the Jean Sibelius String Quartet (1980–2014). Besides his activities as a musician, Kimanen writes, lectures, takes photographs and plays tennis, when, that is, he is not planning a new music festival, learning Japanese or playing with his grandchildren. Sometimes he dreams of a stress-free, idle existence, and has promoted the notion in a theoretical context: he reckons he will be ready for the real thing by around 2065.
