WELCOME TO KUHMO!
The Kuhmo Summer School has provided instruction for music students from Finland and abroad for over fifty years. The history of the Summer School is full of unique love stories: Kuhmo is the place where students have been inspired by concerts and teachers alike, where they have found renewed passion for their playing, where they have developed a fanatical love of lake swimming and sauna, the endless summer nights, and where, perhaps, on occasion, they might have fallen for one of their fellow students—at least, if you ask the artistic directors…
Thanks to Kuhmo Chamber Music and the Kuhmo Summer School, Kainuu becomes an international centre for chamber music for two weeks each July. This summer, the festival will run from 12th to 25th July. Aimed at young music students and skilled amateur players, the Kuhmo Summer School is held annually. Depending on the teachers, the Summer School takes place either during the first or the second week of the festival. We offer both individual tuition as well as chamber-music lessons which you can attend with your own ensemble. If you like, you can take part in both and complement these courses with an individually tailored selection of private lessons.
In addition to private and chamber-music tuition, students also have the chance to perform at Kuhmo Chamber Music with the festival artists as part of our chamber-music workshops. Due to their popularity, this year we will organise an unprecedented four of these workshops. You can also perform at one of our numerous student concerts, which have always been a very valuable and much beloved part of Kuhmo Chamber Music.
Our Summer School offers classes in improvisation, the Sonata Lab for those who wish to deepen their understanding of ensemble playing, and lectures discussing aspects of how to care for string instruments and the grand piano.
