Niamh McKenna, born in 1991, is German-Irish flautist who is currently principle flute with the Turku Philharmonic Orchestra. She studied in Lübeck, Freiburg, Basel and Amsterdam as a pupil of Angela Firkins, Felix Renggli and Kersten McCall. Since 2015 McKenna has also been studying at the Sibelius Academy under Petri Alanko. She has played with the Basel Symphony Orchestra, the Freiburg and Lübeck Philharmonic Orchestras and Amsterdam's Concertgebouw Chamber Orchestra. 2013 she was selected for the Concertgebouw Orchestra Academy. Having moved to Finland in 2013, McKenna has guested with the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra and the Tapiola Sinfonietta as deputy principal flute. In summer 2016 she will be appearing not just at Kuhmo but also at the Uusikaupunki Crusell Music Festival, the KuruFest in Ylöjärvi and the Turku Music Festival.
