Nicholas Daniel's career got kick-started at the age of 18, when he won the BBC's Young Musician of the Year Competition. He has played as soloist with several orchestras under the baton of such illustrious figures as Edward Gardner, Sakari Oramo and Roger Norrington. He is a master of both Baroque and contemporary music and has given the first performances of many works. His discs of concertos won a BBC Music Magazine award. Daniel is oboist with the Britten Sinfonia, is Artistic Director of the Leicester Festival and Professor of Oboe at the Trossingen Music Academy in Germany. He made his debut as a conductor with the Britten Sinfonia at the BBC Proms in 2004 and has also recently conducted orchestras in Finland and Norway. He is also an active chamber musician and founder member of the Haffner Wind Ensemble and Britten Oboe Quartet.
