Meta4, founded in 2001, is one of Finland's most successful string quartets. The Quartet's international career began in Moscow in 2004, when they won the Shostakovich (String Quartet) Competition. In 2007 they took first prize in the International Joseph Haydn Chamber Music Competition in Vienna. That same year they received the Finland Prize in recognition of their success internationally. They were the BBC's New Generation Artist 2008-2010, and in 2013 received an award from the Jenny and Antti Wihuri Foundation.
The quartet has played in Vienna, London, Madrid, Paris, Stockholm and Shanghai. In Finland, the quartet was also Artistic Director of the Oulunsalo Soi Chamber Music Festival from 2008 to 2011, and from 2008 it was quartet-in-residence of the Kuhmo Chamber Music Festival. Meta4 studied at the European Chamber Music Academy (ECMA) and their main teachers were Hatto Beyerle and Johannes Meissl.
